Cindy Fier is hanging up her stethoscope.
After 48 years as a nurse, including the last 18 at Genesis Health Group in Eldridge, Fier will be retiring on Friday, Jan. 22.
Fier graduated from Clinton Community College in 1973 and began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Clinton. She continued her career as a nurse at the Jackson County Public Hospital and Maquoketa family clinic before becoming the Director of Nurses at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa.
In 2002 she decided to leave her administrative role at Crestridge Care Center and returned to caring for patients. She began working at Genesis Health Center on June 3, 2002.
After retiring she plans to work a couple of days a month, volunteer, spend time with friends and family and watch her grandson play baseball.
