The first Iowa community to welcome an Amazon warehouse was Bondurant, just north of Altoona, near Des Moines. Bondurant city administrator Marketa Oliver said Amazon has been a terrific partner, first with a $250 million, 645,000-square-foot distribution center employing 1,000. This year, it is adding a $31.2 million sorting center next door that promises 300 more jobs, she said.
