1995: Rail service to Eldridge ends

Oct. 4, 1995: Officials at the Eldridge Coop were notified that service on the Soo Line railroad spur would cease. Since 1990, the Coop’s 30-40 rail cars of fertilizer had been the only traffic on the line, which ran from Eldridge to near John Deere Davenport Works. The spur had been in operation since 1871.
