Wilton man charged after long standoff

Editor’s note: The following was submitted by Capt. Quinn Riess of the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 26.
On Aug. 23, at or about 6:30 p.m., deputies were called to 1736 Bancroft Avenue in western Muscatine County for a report of suspicious activity.
Information received from the resident indicated that an unknown/unidentified male arrived on a motorcycle, entered the residence and barricaded himself in a bedroom.
With the assistance from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and West Liberty Police Department, deputies were able to establish a perimeter, limiting the subject’s movements. Members of the Muscatine Special Operations Response Team (MSORT) were called and at or about 12:47 a.m. took the subject into custody.
The subject was later identified as Jacob Owen Austin (33) of Wilton. Austin was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Theft, Possession w/intent to Deliver, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, and Carrying Weapons.
The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Muscatine Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, West Liberty Police Department, MSORT, Bettendorf Police Department, Wilton Police Department and Nichols Fire/First Responders.
