Water main break causes Stockton boil order June 13-17

STOCKTON – A broken water main caused the city of Stockton to advise residents to boil their drinking water starting the morning of June 13.

The break occurred about 8:20 a.m. and affected the entire town.

Once repairs were completed, the city flushed the system and collected water samples for testing. According to Stockton City Clerk Sherri Bell, the ban was lifted June 17.

In instances of boil orders, the city and DNR recommend residents boil their water until testing shows water is safe to drink. Water line breaks can allow bacteria to enter the system.

Under a boil order, residents should bring all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Or, use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Residents can use tap water for bathing and similar purposes.
