Three more COVID-19 cases confirmed in Cedar County

Posted

Cedar County has received notification of three additional residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to four. Those individuals and their close contacts who are at high risk from known exposure have already been contacted by Cedar County Public Health staff with further instructions. With evidence of community spread in our area it is more important than ever to follow the instructions we have been sharing for weeks. These actions in-clude:

• Washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time.

• Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow/upper arm.

• Isolate yourself in your home when ill.

• Social Distancing. Stay home except for essential errands such as grocery shop-ping and filling prescriptions, maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others, and avoid large gatherings.

• After traveling outside of Iowa, self-isolate for 14 days following your return.

Approximately 80 percent of Iowans in-fected with COVID-19, will experience only a mild to moderate illness. Most mildly ill Iowans do not need to go to their healthcare provider or be tested to confirm they have COVID-19. Sick Iowans, with symptoms including fever, cough or diffi-culty breathing, must stay home and isolate themselves from others in their home until:

• You have had no fever for at least 72 hours (This means 3 full days of no fever without the use of medicine to reduce your temperature); AND

• Other symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath have improved; AND

• At least 7 days have passed since your symptoms first appeared.

If you think you may need healthcare, call first. Your provider can assess whether you need to be seen in the office or you can recover at home. There may also be options for you to talk to a medical provider from home using technology.
