Durant Middle School flutist Kennedy Schumacher has been selected for the 2020 Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Honor Band. Each year, SEIBA sponsors the auditions in Fairfield for the SEIBA Junior High and Senior Honor Band. This year there were 14 audition centers, with approximately 450 students auditioning for two junior high bands and one high school band. Prior to auditions, students in junior high are expected to prepare two assigned etudes as well as memorize nine major scales and their chromatic scale. High School students are expected to prepare two etudes and a solo selection, in addition to memorizing all major scales. The SEIBA Festival will be held in Iowa City at West High School on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The students will rehearse with prominent guest conductors during the day, and give a late afternoon concert, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.
