Norene Joyce Boyle, 89, of Tipton, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019 in the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House with her family by her side.

Visitation was held Aug. 23 at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services were held Aug. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton with Rev. Beth Wartick officiating. Burial took place in the Durant Cemetery.

Norene was born to Harry and Wilma (Bockwoldt) Schlapkohl on Oct. 23, 1929 in Durant. Norene began her education in a one-room school where she completed kindergarten through eighth grade, then attended and graduated from Durant High School. Norene attended the Iowa State Teachers College and different classes at Muscatine Community College and the University of Iowa. Norene taught rural school in Muscatine County and was employed for 34 years in the Bennett Community School system.

Norene was married to Lyle Burmeister and later to Neil Boyle. Norene served as the former president of the Bennett School Workers and was a former member of the Country Gardeners and the Tipton Ikebana. Norene enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing, big band music and all of the grandchildren. She volunteered as a resident advocate, served as a worker for the American Heart Association and for the American Cancer Research.

Norene is survived by her brother Vernon Schlapkohl; children Ken (Candy) Burmeister of Davenport, Randy (Donna) Burmeister of New Liberty, Gary (Rita) Burmeister of Tipton, Rick (Lydia) Burmeister of Atlanta, Georgia, Luanne (Dr. Kim) Huckstadt of Maquoketa, and Linda (Matt) Stiles of Tacoma, Washington; her step-children Tim Boyle and Jane Field; grandchildren Troy (Brittany) Burmeister, Tara (Dr. Andy) Bries, Wade Burmeister, Kari (Gregg) Elsberry, Tracey (Brian) Jeffords, Jason (Tiffany) Burmeister, Justin (Kathryn) Burmeister, Trent Burmeister, Tate Huckstadt, Jonathan (Rebecca) Stiles, Sam (Melissa) Stiles; 7 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister Ima Riessen, brothers Roland Schlapkohl and Donald Schlapkohl, sisters-in-law Lois Schlapkohl and Lenora Schlapkohl, brother-in-law Melvin Riessen, step-children Tom Boyle, Nancy Macy, Peggy Whitworth, and one grandson Travis Burmeister.
