Michael Alan Hoekstra, 67, of Wilton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 28, 2019, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, with a closing prayer at 7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton.

Mike was born in Ottumwa on May 28, 1952, to LaVerne “Verne” and Mary (Horras) Hoekstra.

He graduated from Wilton High School in 1970. Mike attended Muscatine Community College and the University of Iowa. He married Connie L. Grunder on June 17, 1972 in Wilton.

Mike retired from Gerdau Ameristeel in Wilton, after 40 plus years of service.

He was an active member of the Steelworkers Union Local #8581. Mike was an avid car and race enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially around the campfire. Mike loved watching the local kids play baseball and he was a diehard Hawkeye fan. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Connie, his daughter Angie (Josh) Kraushaar of Williamsburg, his son Jake (Carissa) Hoekstra of Wilton, his grandchildren Taylor, Kolton, Lakin, Jenner, Nikolas and Rebekah, his sister Liz (Rick) Brecht of Clive and his brother Chris (Paula) Hoekstra of Wilton as well as numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
