Marvin Ray Sherman, 86, of Wilton, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 at his home. A visitation was held Oct. 28 at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. A funeral service was held Oct. 29, also at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. Burial took place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. A memorial fund has been established in Marvin’s memory. Marvin was born in Whittier, Iowa on Dec. 1, 1932, the son of Emery and Mabel (Cronk) Sherman. He graduated from Alburnett High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, Marvin served his country in the United States Army. He married Betty Brunsen on March 30, 1957. Betty died on Aug.16, 2005.

Marvin was a tool and die maker with Century Engineering for 22 years and later with North Star Steel in Wilton for an additional 22 years, retiring in 1994. Marvin was a former Boy Scouts of America Leader and a member of the Cedar Rapids Masonic Temple. He was a master woodworker and created furniture, vases, bowls and toys. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Marvin also enjoyed completing puzzles, playing cards, and playing video games with his family. Most of all, Marvin cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Robert) Cross of Wilton and daughter-in-law, Cindy Sherman of Zephyrhills, Florida; four grandchildren, Hannah, Jamie, Alec and Kyle; and one sister, Betty Heirs of Lugoff, South Carolina.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and one son, Mark Sherman.
