Loretta E. Beitel, 84, of Walcott, Iowa, died Sept. 11, 2019 at her home. Visitation was held on Sept. 15 at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. A funeral service was held on Sept. 16 at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Burial took place in Walcott Cemetery, Walcott.

Loretta was born on June 29, 1935, the daughter of John and Martha B. (Dettman) Hayne in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from Davenport High School with the Class of 1953.

Loretta married Bernhard “Ben” H. Beitel on Nov. 24, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa. Ben died on Nov. 15, 2008.

Loretta was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. She was also a member of ASHHS, the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary, the Walcott Day Committee, and was past president of the Walcott Cemetery Board. She loved jigsaw puzzles, Polka music and traveling to Germany.

Loretta is survived by her two sons, Darren (LaDonna) Beitel of Davenport and Mark Beitel of Stockton; one granddaughter, Alyssa (Brett Marbach) Beitel of Masonville, Iowa; one sister, Patricia Lovewell of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; one brother, John Hayne of Davenport; one brother in-law, Jack Horton of Rock Island, Illinois; and one sister in-law, Martha Otte of Princeton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; one daughter, Cyndi Beitel; three sisters, Dolores Carman, Myrna Horton and Dorothy McVey; and three brothers in-law, Larry Lovewell, Jerry McVey, and Karl Otte.
