    LB Raymond Eaton, 99, of Wilton, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Simpson Memorial Home.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton.

    Interment will take place at Oakridge Cemetery in West Liberty with military honors.

    Memorials may be made to the Wilton American Legion.

    LB was born in Muscatine County on May 9, 1918, to Willie “Hobart” and Donie (Milburn) Eaton.

    He graduated from Springdale High School in 1937. LB farmed south of West Liberty for many years. He later worked at the University of Iowa Library. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He was chosen to serve on General MacArthur’s honor guard in the Philippines.

    He was a member of the Wilton American Legion Post #584. He was well known for riding his bike around Wilton. He played racquetball and handball until age 80. He played in the Iowa Senior Games and ran the BIX Seven several times.

    LB married Luetta Ann Vogel on Sept. 28, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri.

    LB is survived by his children: Lana Gray of Davenport, Gilbert (Darlene) Eaton of Conifer, Colorado, Barbara (Jess) Brenner of Wilton, Linda Eaton of Iowa City and Roger (Fran) Eaton of Manchaca, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 5, 2012, two infant grandchildren, his grandson Gilbert Lee Eaton and his brother Glenn Eaton.
