Jeanne Laura Hensen, 84, of Palm Harbor, Florida, died on Oct. 26, 2018, due to complications of a stroke.
A celebration of life service will be held at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Walcott Church, Walcott Legion, or to the Palm Harbor United Methodist Church in Palm Harbor in her memory.
Jeanne was born on Nov. 25, 1933 in Stockton to Donald and Clara Mordhorst.
She was raised in the Durant, Stockton and Walcott areas, and was a 1951 graduate of Davenport Central High School. Upon graduation, she worked at Walcott Bank. On Feb. 2, 1957 she was united in marriage to Jerry Hensen in Davenport. They made their home in Walcott for 30 years.
After her children were born, Jeanne worked as the city clerk for Walcott for 18 years and then went to work for Hensen’s Insurance Agency in 1978 until they retired in 1987. They retired to Palm Harbor.
While living in Walcott, they were members of Calvary United Methodist Church in Walcott. After moving to Florida, Jeanne became a member of the Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, where she volunteered a couple of days a week. She also volunteered to sit at polling sites. Jeanne loved to play dominoes, cards, golf and Words With Friends. She enjoyed doing cross-stitch and crossword puzzles.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Jerry; her daughters: Jodi Grunwald (Steve Herlica) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Jane (Curt) Christopher of Urbandale; four grandchildren: Brandon and Cara Grunwald of Greensboro and Kevin and Hope Christopher of Urbandale; two sisters: Donna Davison and Sally Mordhorst, both of Walcott; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Burt Davison.
