Gary L. Mehrens, 69, of Davenport, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of life will follow at the Walcott American Legion.

Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walcott Fire Department or Camp Courageous.

Gary was born in Scott County, on Feb. 22, 1949, the son of Lester and Elvera (Best) Mehrens.

In 1967 Gary graduated from Central High School in Davenport.

Gary married Carmella Frisch on Jan. 24, 1970 in Davenport.

Gary farmed his entire life in Scott County, where he was also a farm machinery mechanic.

He was a board member on the Scott County Landfill Commission and Scott County Planning and Zoning as well as Farm Bureau Director of Hickory Grove Township.

Gary enjoyed participating in tractor pulls as a member of the NTPA, with his tractor “The Freight Train.” He loved going on road trips to farm shows, auctions and unique attractions. He enjoyed golfing, history and trivia.

Gary is remembered by his wife Carmella of Davenport; his sons Scott (Mary) Mehrens, Mountain View, California and Jason (Michelle) Mehrens, Davenport; grandchildren Micah and Taiga Mehrens, Mountain View; sister Karen Gottsche, Walcott; brother-in-law Dennis (Judy) Frisch, Durant; and sister-in-law Sandi Frisch, Walcott.

Preceding him in death are his parents and infant brother Darold.
