Duane R. Meyer, Sr., 84, of Durant, died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 at Wilton Retirement Community.

A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 19 from 1 until 4 p.m. at the Durant American Legion.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Duane was born in Walcott on Dec. 23, 1933 to Herman and Velma (Gilbert) Meyer.

He graduated from Davenport High School in 1952. Duane married Mardelle Schroeder. He served in the United States Army.

He owned and operated Meyer Dairy in Durant. He later worked at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was a former member of the Durant Jaycees, served on the first Polka fest committee and on the Durant Ambulance. In early years, he coached little league.

Duane is survived by two daughters: Dana Brown of San Diego, California and Denise (Russ) Paustian of Durant, four grandchildren and his brothers: Keith Meyer of Walcott and Bill (Diane) Meyer of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his son Duane “Butch” Meyer Jr.
