Donald H. Cawiezell, 95, of Pleasant Prairie, Iowa, died on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at his home.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.

Funeral services were held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment took place at Parr Cemetery in Muscatine County with military honors conducted by the Blue Grass American Legion.

Donald was born in Pleasant Prairie on July 16, 1923 to Arthur and Ora (Welsch) Cawiezell.

Don graduated from Muscatine High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II. In 2017 he was inducted into France’s Legion of Honor.

Don married Eunice H. Altmann on Nov. 27, 1955 in Pleasant Prairie.

He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1980 after 38 years of service and farmed in Muscatine County.

He was a member of the Walcott Community Club, Blue Grass American Legion Post #711, where he served as the Chaplain for 35 years, and the 500 Club. He was a member and past president of the Durant Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards.

Don is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Eunice; their sons: William (Jill) Cawiezell of New Era, Robert (Jill) Cawiezell of Pleasant Prairie and John (Samantha Solomon) Cawiezell of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Earl and George Cawiezell a niece and a nephew.
