Obit: Don Rigdon Fair

Don Rigdon Fair, 86, died Oct. 8. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to www.ManeGait.org.

Retired United States Air Force Major Don Rigdon Fair was born in Sparta, Illinois on Jan. 11, 1933. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s degree, followed by a Masters degree from George Washington University in public relations and the University of Dallas in international trade. Don briefly taught economics at Cedar Hill Junior College.

Major Fair flew B52s and 01s in Vietnam, completing 440 combat missions earning two Distinguished Flying Cross medals, 23 Air Medals, the Bronze Star Medal and he was decorated by the South Korean Military. Following his service, Don flew the 737, 747 and 757 aircrafts for the United Parcel Service until his retirement in 1993. He was a 65-year member of Wilton Masonic Lodge #167.

Don is survived by his wife, Soni; son Charles Fair of Sante Fe, New Mexico; daughter Kelly Fair Waterman of Dallas, Texas; son David Fair of Costa Rica; son Rigdon Fair of Jackson, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Sara Waterman and Nick Waterman, USAF; sister Dr. Betsy Fair of Wilton; and his nieces and nephews.
