Obit: Charles Erue

Charles L. “Chuck” Erue, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

Per his request, his body will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Aug. 18 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 E. Mapleleaf Dr., Mt. Pleasant.

Born on Aug. 2, 1936, in Millersburg, Iowa, Charles Lee was the son of Harry Frank and Edith Pauline (Chittick) Erue. He was a graduate of Millersburg High School. On Jan. 16, 1956, Charles enlisted in the United States Army where he served for two years and continued his service in the Army Reserves for an additional three years.

Charles was united in marriage to Susan Scott Williams Harbour in Mt. Pleasant on Nov. 9, 1984. For 21 years, Charles worked for Bluebird Midwest Bus Company as an installer. He retired in 1998.

Charles loved dogs. He will long be remembered as a master woodcrafter. For many years he earned numerous blue ribbons and best in show for his wood products entered in the Henry County Fair.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of Mt. Pleasant; four sons: Charles Erue, Jr. of Lockridge, Iowa, Benjamin (Bobbi) Hodge of Nashville, Tennessee, Scott (Brooke) Hodge of Cartersville, Georgia and Christopher (Janelle) Harbour of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Rhonda (Andrew) Brown of Wilton and Peggy (Kevin) Wellington of Mt. Pleasant; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Frances (Robert) Hackett of Salem, Iowa and Judith (Kenneth) Wilhite of Millersburg.

Preceding Charles in death were his parents, a brother John Harry Erue and a niece.
