Giant Killers! Beavers knock off No. 1, qualify for state

Posted

The Wilton volleyball team faced a tall task Oct. 30 when it traveled to Cedar Rapids Xavier for a Class 2A Regional final match with No. 1 ranked Grundy Center — which had been to the last two state tournaments.

The Beavers handily won set one before falling in set two. Wilton then went on a 10-1 run to begin set three and closed it, and the fourth game, for a 3-1 upset win to eliminate Grundy Center and qualify for the state tournament.

Wilton defeated Grundy Center 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22.

The No. 8 seeded Beavers will play in the state quarterfinals in Cedar Rapids Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. against No. 1 seed Dyersville Beckman.
