Frank Bermel of Muscatine celebrated his 100th birthday with a family dinner on Nov. 20. He said, “The secret to 100 is plain, hard work and a good wife.”
Frank was born on Nov. 20, 1918 to Albert and Lucy (Stecher) Bermel. He married the late Cleo Carter on April 30, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He and Cleo celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Their children include Janet (John) Derksen, Jim (Sue) Bermel, Ron (Deb) Bermel and the late Den Bermel. Frank has 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Frank spent his life farming. He is a member of St. Mary and Mathias Catholic Church, Farm Bureau and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoys fishing, playing cards, making wine, camping and traveling.
