With 1,027 votes cast, the Durant Community School District bond referendum has failed. Needing 60 percent "yes" votes for passage, the proposed $10.8 million project instead received between 62-63 percent "no" votes at the polls Sept. 11.
Question 1 received 636 "no" votes while Question 2 received 651 "no" votes, compared to 385 and 372 "yes" votes respectively.
The bond project included a $4.8 million athletic facility, auditorium renovation, new administrative wing with secure high school entrance, conversion of the middle school gym to band/chorus/art rooms and STEM classrooms.
Further coverage of the bond vote will be printed in a future edition of the Advocate News.
