City of Stockton under boil order

Posted

STOCKTON – A broken water main caused the city of Stockton to advise residents to boil their drinking water starting June 13.

The break occurred about 8:20 a.m. Thursday and affects the entire town.

Once repairs are completed, the city will flush the system and collect water samples for testing. City officials have confirmed June 14 that repairs have been made and the city is awaiting testing results. Boil order is still in effect.

The city and DNR recommend residents boil their water until testing shows water is safe to drink. Water line breaks can allow bacteria to enter the system.

Residents should bring all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Or, use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Residents can use tap water for bathing and similar purposes.
