Bennett's 135th annual celebration coming Aug. 16-17

A group of Bennett residents is putting plans in place for the town’s 135th celebration on Aug. 16-17. The event will mimic the Quasquicentennial festival 10 years ago with a few minor changes. On Friday night, there will be an all-school reunion preceded by the running of a one-mile, three-mile or five-mile foot race. The princess and prince will be crowned and the night will wrap up with music by North of 40, sponsored by Bombers Tap.

The fun will continue on Saturday, starting out with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by a meal prepared by the Peace Church members featuring Cedar County Cattlemen beef. Events leading up to Bennett’s signature frog jump at 5 p.m. include: kids’ games and pedal tractor pull, a free show by Gunny the Clown, with magic and balloon twisting, bags tournament, scavenger hunt, paint and take with Christine Boeve, a display of antique and unique tools, car and tractor shows, living history demo by the 3D Cavalry group and a book fair at the town library.

Local talent will be showcased during the variety show and then after the frog jump, there will be music by Cody Hicks.

Throughout the day there will be food, beverages and a craft and vendor fair on Main Street. Contact a Celebration Committee member or a princess/prince contestant to purchase a bracelet, which will allow purchasers to enjoy the events and concerts and have the number on that bracelet, entered into a prize drawing.
