A Bettendorf woman accused of bilking donors out of more than $39,000 over a fake cancer scam was sentenced Friday.

Madison Russo, 20,  received a 10-year suspended sentence with three years probation. If she successfuly completes the terms of her probation, she will serve no prison time.

Russo must also pay restitution in full, and a $1,700 fine.

The judge denied a deferred judgement, which would have seen the conviction removed from her record if she completed probation.

Russo, who was arrested by Eldridge police in January, pled guilty in June to one count of first-degree theft, a Class C felony.
