Obituary: William Bauer

A funeral service for William Clarence Bauer, 87, of DeWitt, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial with military honors was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, DeWitt. The Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Bauer died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at Wellspire (formerly Westwing Place), DeWitt.

William Bauer was born July 4, 1932, in Dubuque, the son of William and Cecelia (Koppes) Bauer. He graduated from Welton High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He married Joyce Scheckel on June 23, 1956, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Welton. She died Aug. 12, 2016.

He farmed north of Welton and later worked for Farm Service until retiring at age 77.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, and had been on an Honor Flight.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, trapping, and traveling with his family.

Survivors include his children, Rhonda (Glen) Boswell, Welton, Dennis (Rhonda) Bauer, DeWitt, Connie (John) Burns, Eldridge, and Craig (Julie) Bauer, McCausland; his grandchildren, Cara (Dan) Vosatka, Abby (Ryan) Knight, Rene (Nick) Morhardt, Alyssa (Joe) Donahue, Austin (Jennie) Bauer, Whitney (Andy) Altenhofen, Courtney (Derek) Stecklein, Ashley (Guthrie) Waechter, Sgt. Korinne Burns, and Carmen Bauer; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Marcella Steinke; and a brother-in-law, Vince Moore.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bob, Mary, Darlene, and Beverly; and his brothers-in-law, Kenny and Roy.
