Obituary: Wade Steckel

A funeral service for Wade G. Steckel, 57, of Davenport, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport. A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 4400 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport. In keeping with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. The Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Steckel died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. 

Wade Steckel was born Aug. 17, 1961, in Davenport, the son of William and Diane (Oscarson) Steckel.

He married LuAnn Carstens on Oct. 11, 1985.

He was a manager with State Farm Insurance, retiring in July of 2018 after almost 30 years of service.

He was involved in youth sports through coaching and officiating, and was the public address announcer for Davenport Central athletics.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Andrew (Monica) Steckel, West Des Moines, Ryan (Haley) Steckel, Davenport, and Austin Carstens, Scottsdale, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Landon, Henry and Isaac Steckel; his mother, Diane Steckel, Davenport; his mother-in-law, Joann Carstens, Davenport; his siblings, Jeni (Vince) Sabatino, Reno, Nev., Bill (Donna) Steckel, Burr Ridge, Ill., and Chad (Lisa) Steckel, Lansing, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Candace (Harry) Kuehl; and a brother-in-law, Don Carstens, Scottsdale.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Steckel, and his father-in-law, Manfred Carstens.

Memorials may be made to the family in support of Wade’s wish to provide assistance for youth through mentoring and athletics.
