A celebration of life service for Velma Darlene Davis, 88, of Davenport, was held at noon Monday, Aug. 5, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery, New London, Iowa. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Monday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Davis died Wednesday, July 31, 2019, in Davenport.
Velma Schweitzer was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Mediapolis, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Mable Mae (Vincent) Schweitzer.
She married Leo Davis on May 18, 1950, in Burlington. He died in 2002.
She worked as a nurse’s aide for Good Samaritan and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 15 years of service.
Her hobbies were puzzles, growing flowers, reading, listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Sharon Woodside, Wayne (Cheryl) Davis, and Billy (Dawn) Davis; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Davis, and a brother, Leonard Schweitzer.
