Obituary: Thomas Gebauer

A memorial service for Thomas Edward Gebauer, 75, of Eldridge, formerly of DeWitt, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, DeWitt. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Akron, Colo., at a later date. The Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Gebauer died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge.

Thomas Gebauer was born July 23, 1943, in Akron, the son of Joseph and Nora (Ireland) Gebauer. He graduated from Akron High School and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University.

He married Edith Ratliff in 2003. She died in 2011.

He worked for many years with John Deere and later JRB in DeWitt.

He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in DeWitt.

His hobbies were woodworking, golfing, trap shooting, and collecting guns.

Survivors include his daughters, Tamela Gebauer, Colorado Springs, Colo., Trina (Tony) Blair and Tresha (Dale) Ambrosy, all of Long Grove; his sons, Jeffrey (Sarah) Gebauer, Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Jared Gebauer (Rita Murray), Jackson Hole, Wyo.; his grandchildren, Austin (Justine), Jordyn, Karlee, Conner, Tyler, Liam, Roman, Fiona, and Eric; two great-grandchildren; the mothers of his children, Beverly Koppes and Joanne Gebauer; his siblings, Agnes Friedly, Richard (Linda) Gebauer, Rose Hazlett, and Patrick (LuAnn) Gebauer; and a sister-in-law, Dolly Gebauer.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Gebauer, and an infant brother, Billy Gebauer.
