Obituary: Phyllis Kelley

A funeral service for Phyllis Mae Kelley, 95, of Marion, formerly of Davenport, was held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial was in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.

Mrs. Kelley died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at her daughter’s home.

Phyllis Stevenson was born May 14, 1923, in Davenport, the daughter of John and Ida (Hardwick) Stevenson. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1941.

She married Robert Kelley on Sept. 17, 1949, in Bettendorf. He preceded her in death.

She worked at Iowana Ice Cream Co., and as a secretary at Gordon Van-Tine and Victor Animograph. She was a homemaker, and when her children were older, she worked at Petersen Harned Von Maur, retiring in 1989 after 14 years.

Her hobbies were spending time with her family, playing bridge, watching golf, reading, and playing poker.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen (Corey) Jensen and Sarah (Christopher) Turner; a son, Kevin (Karna) Kelley; her grandchildren, Kelley Jensen, Casey (Kelsie) Jensen, Rachel (Michael) Busch, Abigail (Jarrett) Pearson, Lachlan (Maggie) Kelley, and Madeline Turner; a great-grandson; and her sisters, Sally Geurink and Judith (Charles) King.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bernard Geurink.
