Obituary: Phyllis Kappeler

A Celebration of Life gathering for Phyllis E. Kappeler, 88, of Walcott, was held from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Idle Hours Lanes, Durant. A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Private family visitation was held, with burial in the Durant Cemetery. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Kappeler died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Phyllis Kraklio was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Muscatine County, the daughter of Earl and Amanda (Klindt) Kraklio. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1948.

She married William Kappeler on Nov. 13, 1948, in Davenport. He died Aug. 23, 1989.

She and her husband farmed in Scott and Cedar counties. She later worked for the Durant School and Doty Insurance.

She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant, and a former member of OES, Wilton.

Her hobbies were going to McDonald’s, attending sporting events, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Guyer and Karen Barrett, both of Durant; her sons, Kevin, Walcott, and Keith (Amy), Stockton; a son-in-law, Rafiel Martinez, Los Angeles; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Paustian, Deloras Ruplinger and Sharon (Jim) Grunder; and her brothers, Kenneth and Gary (Kaye) Kraklio.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; a grandson, Jason Guyer; her sisters, Eleanor Moeller, Jacqueline Telsrow, Patricia Kraklio, and Marion Kappeler; and her brothers, Darius and Earl Kraklio.

Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Durant Cemetery.
