Obituary: Phillip Tubbs

A funeral service for Phillip V. “Butch” Tubbs, 78, of Moline, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, May 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mr. Tubbs died Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Phillip Tubbs was born May 23, 1939, in Council Bluffs, the son of Jesse and Matilda Tubbs.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1966, as a gunners mate aboard the USS Des Moines.

He married Judith Ferrall. He later married Sharon Gibson.

He was a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1988.

His hobbies were collecting antiques, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; his children, Eugene (Melissa) Tubbs, Phyllis (Eric) Mossage, and Cheryl (Joseph) Raskin; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Flint; a brother, Richard Tubbs; and a stepdaughter, Tammy Van Hoosier.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
