A funeral service for Nina June “Boots” Jurisic, 94, of Dubuque, was held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the Hoffmann-Schneider-Kitchen Funeral Home, Dubuque. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.
Mrs. Jurisic died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
Nina Avenarius was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Dubuque, the daughter of George “Pat” and Minnie (Jonas) Avenarius.
She married George Jurisic on April 15, 1946, in Dubuque. He died Jan. 1, 1971.
She had worked at Mercy Medical Center in the cafeteria as a salad maker.
She was a member of the Eagles Club and a foster grandmother.
Survivors include her sons, Gene Jurisic, Dubuque, and Terry (Debra) Jurisic, Eldridge; six grandchildren, Gene Jurisic Jr., Susana Jurisic, Harley Jurisic, Nicole (Allan) Vatnsdal, Joshua (Melanie) Jurisic, and Stephanie (Matthew) Arensdorff; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Jurisic; a grandson, Christopher Jurisic; three sisters, Mona “Sis” Fens, Delaine Vogt, and Minnetta “Nettie” Fortner; and five brothers, Harold “Cyril,” Milton, Gerald, Norman and Eldon Avenarius.
Memorials may be made to Stonehill Care Center or Hospice of Dubuque.
