Obituary: Melba Peterson

A funeral service for Melba Ruth Peterson, 99, formerly of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 16, from 4-6 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mrs. Peterson died Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, in Wichita, Kan.

Melba Neff was born March 11, 1920, in Calamus, the daughter of Martin and Inez (McFarland) Neff. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1937 and from Davenport Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1941.

She married Harold Peterson on Feb. 14, 1942. He died in 2005.

She worked in nursing for many years and retired from the former Pine Knoll Health Care Facility in 1982.

She was a volunteer with Meal Service of Scott County and delivered meals for over 20 years.

Her hobbies were knitting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Leann (Ron) Barth, Wichita; her grandsons, Matthew (Amy), Tim, Joe (Christi), and Phil (Bridget) Carpenter, and Brad (Wendy) and Derek (Joy) Barth; 10 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Bill Rivers of Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diann Carpenter Rivers; her sisters, Eileen Brandt and Mildred Martin; and a brother, Kenneth Neff.
