Obituary: Mary Strohbehn

Mary L. Strohbehn, 52, formerly of Donahue, died Monday, May 8, 2023, in Hemet, Calif. Mary fought a short and courageous battle with cancer. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded, and a private family burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, in the Long Grove Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 20, 1970, in Davenport, the daughter of Benjamin E. and Margaret J. (Wilford) Strohbehn. She was a 1989 North Scott graduate. Then she joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Guam for three years. After getting out of the Navy, Mary lived in Arizona and California most recently. She wrote grants for various organizations.

Mary was an avid book reader. The past two years, she was a camp host for national forests and parks. She loved the outdoors and camping.

Survivors include her partner of 25 years, Gary Taylor; and her siblings, Nancy Glover of Donahue, and Robert Strohbehn and Donald Strohbehn, both of Davenport. Mary loved all of her nieces and nephews very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Margaret Strohbehn; her grandparents, Lawrence and Tessie Wilford, Benjamin Louis Strohbehn, and Hugo and Gertrude Drumm; a sister, Peggy Stoltenberg; sisters-in-law Cindy Strohbehn and June Strohbehn; and a brother-in-law, Ned Stoltenberg.
