Obituary: Mary Stauffer

A funeral service for Mary A. Stauffer, 81, of Eldridge, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Burial was in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 24, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stauffer died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at her residence.

Mary McCloskey was born Dec. 15, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes (Schad) McCloskey.

She married Charles “Bob” Stauffer on Aug. 10, 1963, at Corpus Christi Church in Dayton. He preceded her in death.

She was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church for over 40 years, where she served on the Guild committee. She was recognized with the “Heart of Gold” award for organizing the inaugural Firefighter Appreciation Dinner for North Scott area firemen.

Her hobby was spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include her children, Ann (James) Lenth, Welton, and Tom (Jill) Stauffer, Adel; her grandchildren, Griffin, Gretchen and Gillian Lenth, and Ashton, Brady and Jaxson Stauffer; a sister, Patricia McCloskey of Kentucky; and her brothers-in-law, Dennis (Patti) Stauffer, Miamisburg, Ohio, and Jim (Linda) Stauffer, Hilton Head, S.C.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances and Margaret, in infancy, and a sister-in-law.
