Obituary: Marvin Smith

A funeral service for Marvin L. Smith, 98, of Davenport, was held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the mortuary. Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Marvin Smith was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Batavia, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Inez (Webb) Smith. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He married Dawn Church on Aug. 18, 1943, in Fort Sill, Okla.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for two years as a navigator on a B-17.

He worked as a manufacturer’s representative.

He was a member of several professional engineering organizations. He and his wife were founding members of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Sue Thomas, Boise, Idaho, Kandis Croom Mt. Home, Ark., Nancy (Robert) Stamm, Bettendorf, Marvin (Erin) Smith, Lenexa, Kan., and Jason (Kelli) Smith, Wilmington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
