Obituary: Mark Ehlers

A Celebration of Life service for Mark “Gene” Ehlers, 78, of Davenport, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and inurnment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Mr. Ehlers died Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Mark Ehlers was born July 6, 1940, in Davenport, the son of George and Mary (Reeder) Ehlers. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1958.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He married Marty Ingwersen in 1969. They later divorced. He later married Carolyn (Hennessey) Hart on June 17, 1985, in East Moline. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a civil engineer for the City of Rock Island for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

His hobbies were woodworking, gardening, landscaping, watching and attending baseball games, dining with friends, cars, playing video poker, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son, Mark Ehlers, Las Vegas, Nev.; his stepchildren, Lynne (Jim) Bullock and Candy (Eric) Hart-Nichols, all of Davenport, Tony Hart, Chicago, Todd (Tammy) Hart, Big Lake, Minn., and Gregory Holman, Onalaska, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Jim) Ryan, Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ehlers, Tampa, Fla.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; two stepdaughters; and a stepson.
