Obituary: Margaret Casel

A funeral service for Margaret A. Casel, 99, of Davenport, formerly of Long Grove, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 23, from 2-4 p.m. at the church. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Casel died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Bickford Cottage, Davenport.

Margaret Wallace was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Maquoketa, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Edwards) Wallace.

She married Walter Casel in 1936 in Maquoketa. He died in 1974.

She worked at various places, including the Catholic Supply Store and the Long Grove Post Office, and served as Long Grove City Clerk until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and served on the Ladies Guild. In earlier years, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Susan Casel, Eldridge; her grandsons, Gregory (Kendra) Casel, Todd (Virginia) Casel, Christopher (Michelle) Casel, and Matthew (Leslie) Casel; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister, Janey Ryan, Weslaco, Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two sons, Robert and James Casel; four sisters; and five brothers.
