Obituary: Lowanda Simmons

A funeral service for Lowanda Mae (Engel) Simmons, 94, of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at the mortuary.

Mrs. Simmons died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at her home.

Lowanda Guinn was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Bose, Ill., the daughter of Robert and Gussie (Willard) Guinn.

She married George Engel on July 18, 1952. He died in 1996. She later married Johnie Simmons in 2001.

She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Johnie; her daughters, Kim Bothel (Mike Darnell), Davenport, and Renee (Bobby) Bailey of Ohio; a son, Jimmy Simmons of Ohio; her grandchildren, Alexandria, Jacob, Mollie, Jenna, Jeffrey, and Heather; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy McCoy of Arizona, and Barbara (Kenneth) Penrod of Ohio; and her brothers, Robert (Judy) Guinn, William (Karen) Guinn, and James Guinn, all of Davenport.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Loren Guinn.
