Obituary: Lois VanMaanen

A funeral service for Lois E. VanMaanen, 83, of Davenport, was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Christ United Methodist Church, Davenport. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. VanMaanen died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019.

Lois Shirlaw was born May 2, 1936, in Davenport, the daughter of William and Esther (Wilson) Shirlaw.

She married Walter VanMaanen on Sept. 6, 1958. He died in 2000.

She worked for Davenport Schools for 42 years prior to her retirement in 2015.

She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Her hobbies were caring for her flowers, camping, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Jeff (Cindy) VanMaanen; and her grandchildren, Samantha (Brian) Graham, Zachary VanMaanen, Jorden VanMaanen, Curtis VanMaanen, Tori VanMaanen, Ben VanMaanen, Nate VanMaanen, and Jared VanMaanen.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy VanMaanen; and her siblings, Wilmina Henry, Bob Shirlaw, Jimmy Shirlaw, Billie Jecklin, Bonnie Hultgren, Dawny Porter, and her twin brother, Louie Shirlaw.
