Obituary: Lester Ford

A funeral service for Lester V. Ford, 90, of Dixon, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Hope Church, Dixon. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 11, from 4-7 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Mr. Ford died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.

Lester Ford was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Herreid, S.D., the son of Eugene and Emma (Rische) Ford.

He married Clara Beck on June 4, 1950, at Peace Lutheran Church, Herreid.

He did farm work and construction, helping to build the Oahe Dam in Pierre, S.D., starting in 1951. In 1966, he and his family moved to rural Donahue, where he worked on a farm for 13 years until 1979. He then worked for the City of Davenport water treatment facility until his retirement in April of 1993.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Gloria Olvera, James Ford, John (Roxeann) Ford, Jean Ford, Dale Ford (Armand Zakarauskas), Paul (Donna) Ford, Tim Ford (Angie Perez), and Sheri (Rick) Duhme; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavina Iverson.

He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Memorials may be made to Hope Church or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
