Obituary: Leroy Knutsen

Leroy W. Knutsen, 80, of Eldridge, passed away, Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Kahl Home.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 500 LeClaire Road Eldridge.  Visitation was on Monday, April 1, from 4-7 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home, Jersey Ridge and Kimberly.  Memorials in Leroy’s name may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to Heartland Hospice.

Leroy was born in 1939 in Eldridge, to William and Norma (Roehs) Knutsen.  He graduated from Davenport High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Barbara Barnet on June 22, 1957; they later divorced. He then married Elaine Hart on July 3, 1974; she passed away April 4, 1991. On Aug. 3, 2000, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Burke; she passed away on Feb. 17, 2014. Leroy started his own construction business in 1966, and was a building contractor for his entire life. He was a hard worker and always did it the right way the first time. After “retirement” he liked to travel with Marilyn and visited 47 states. Leroy also had a love of Sudoku puzzles. He was active in Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge.  He was a member of the QC Home Builders Association, and they awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Above all else, Leroy loved his children and grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory are his children: Terry (Rita) Knutsen, Tod Knutsen, Tonya Knutsen, and Trista Knutsen; Marilyn’s children: John and Will (Jessica) Juhl; eight grandchildren: Carl (Aimee), Kelsie, Kirbie (Dylan) Hartley, Max (Liz), Alyson, Kamryn, Maisie, and Melena; a great-grandchild on the way; and his sister Lois Nagle. 

He was preceded in death by two wives, Elaine and Marilyn; his parents; and his sister, Marlene Doggett.
