Obituary: LeRoy Finnegan

A funeral service for LeRoy R. Finnegan, 90, of Camanche, was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Finnegan died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at Unity Point Health Trinity, Bettendorf.

LeRoy Finnegan was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Phoenix, Ill., the son of Ralph and Edna (Klinck) Finnegan.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and retired from the Ready Reserve in 1983 as a master sergeant.

He married Ernestine Kitchen on Nov. 25, 1950, in Galesburg, Ill. She preceded him in death.

He worked in the fabrication department at the Rock Island Arsenal for 36 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Snow Lodge #44 A.F. and A.M., Silver Creek Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star (past patron), and the Buffalo Bill American Legion #347, and attended North Ridge Community Church in Eldridge.

His hobbies were being outdoors, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his children, Kathy Finnegan, Camanche, Denny (Kris) Finnegan, Metamora, Ill., and Michael Finnegan, Davenport; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Everett) Holland, Davenport.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Genevieve Wessels, Mildred Morgan, and Duane Finnegan.
