Obituary: Lawrence Walters

A memorial visitation for Lawrence R. Walters, 76, of Eldridge, was held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in Rock Island National Cemetery.

Mr. Walters died Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.

Lawrence Walters was born May 30, 1943, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Charles and Naomi (Bangs) Walters.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966.

He married Ruth Birge on May 6, 1967, in Fort Calhoun, Neb.

He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1999 and had also worked for John Deere, Waterloo Works. He had most recently been employed with River Valley Co-op in Eldridge.

His hobbies were watching sports, being outside, hunting, working in his yard, going on road trips, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Knisley, Eldridge; his sons, Clinton (Heather) Walters, Bettendorf, and Christopher (Anne) Walters, Chicago; his grandchildren, Katie, Joshua, Madison, Jacob, Justin, and Jace; and three great-grandchildren.
