Obituary: LaVonne Fruechtenicht

A memorial service celebrating the life of LaVonne Ann Fruechtenicht, 85, of Eldridge, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church. The Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Fruechtenicht died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge.

LaVonne Mohr was born April 21, 1933, in Clinton County, the daughter of Ralph and Anna (Haferbier) Mohr. She graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1951, and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1955 with a degree in business education. She earned a master’s degree at The University of Iowa in 1960.

She married Aaron Fruechtenicht on Dec. 18, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte. He died in 2014.

She taught high school in LeGrand, Iowa, and Bettendorf. She was a farm wife and mother. When her children were older, she worked for 10 years as a medical receptionist and bookkeeper for Drs. John Barker and Micheal Schreck.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies were counted cross stitch, traveling, and puzzles.

Survivors include her sons, Gary (Georgia) Fruechtenicht, Palmetto, Ga., and Brian (Deborah) Fruechtenicht, Reno, Nev.; her stepdaughters, Susette Fruechtenicht, Rock Springs, Ga.; Mary MacDonald, Lanexa, Va., and Linda (Louis) Bailey, Lexington, Ky.; her grandchildren, August and Virginia Fruechtenicht; her step-grandchildren, Paula MacDonald-Gainey, and Joshua and Sean Hayes; two step-great-granddaughters; a sister, Myrna Earhart, Hiawatha, Iowa; and a brother, Merlin (Rhoda) Mohr, Houston, Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dona Ruchotzke.
