Ken was born on May 18, 1935, in Tipton, the son of Arnold and Esther (Doermann) Conrad. After graduating from Tipton High School in 1953, Ken joined the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1955.  Following his military service, Ken attended the University of Iowa with a focus on engineering.  Ken dedicated himself to teaching industrial studies at several local schools followed by working as an engineer for Red Jacket and Rockwell Collins.  On July 24, 1979, he married Shirley A. Henningsen, and together they had two sons, Clint and Cory. He purchased a farm north of Long Grove, where he spent the remainder of his years focused on farming and his hobbies.  Ken’s true passion was building and flying experimental aircraft and working on Volkswagen vehicles.  He was a dedicated lifelong member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 75.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Shirley Conrad; son, Cory (Kimberly) Conrad; his grandchildren, Cash, Cain, Camilla, and Kit, all of Long Grove; and his brothers, Harley (Marilyn) Conrad of Tipton, and Gene (Jean-Ann) Conrad of Cascade.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clint Conrad.

The family would like to thank the staff at Genesis Hospice for their professional and compassionate care.
