Obituary: Jerry DePorter

A funeral service for Jerry Lee DePorter, 79, of Port Byron, Ill., was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial with military honors was in Roselawn Cemetery, Moline. Visitation was Friday, July 26, from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. DePorter died Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Jerry DePorter was born July 18, 1940, in Moline, the son of Camiel “Gip” and Anna (Rotz) DePorter. He graduated from United Township High School in 1958.

He served in the Illinois National Guard.

He was previously married to Barbara (Verstraete) Moseley.

He retired from Johnson Contracting with over 40 years of service.

His hobbies were woodworking, fishing at the lake, NASCAR, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his longtime fiancée, Nancy Adams, Port Byron; his children, Joel (Amy) Moseley, Snellville, Ga., Lynn (Thomas) Knoll, Annawan, Ill., and Lorri (Michael) Steffe, Donahue; his grandchildren, Jacob Moseley, Drew Moseley, Avery Herold, Ashley Moseley, Elena Moseley, Matthew (Jenna) Knoll, Jordan Knoll, Christopher (Shelby) Steffe, Lindsey (Greg) Pons, and Elizabeth Steffe; a great-grandchild; Nancy’s daughters, Sharl (Todd) DeClercq, Hillsdale, Ill., and Shelley (Chris) Gibson, Port Byron; and Nancy’s grandchildren, Wesley, Laura, Jack, Paige, Blake, Joseph, and Joshua.

He was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren, Owen and Mitchell Moseley.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or Victory Junction (4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, NC 27317).
