Obituary: Ivola Talbert

A funeral service for Ivola E. “Ivy” Talbert, 89, of Moline, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 19 (today), from 4-6 p.m. at the mortuary, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the mortuary.

Ivola James was born March 13, 1929, in Stuart County, Iowa, the daughter of E. Ray and Frony James.

She married Clyde Talbert on Nov. 3, 1948, in Lucas County, Iowa. He died in 2003. She later married Paul Bendit on Sept. 20, 2009. He died in 2017.

She worked at various companies including Equitable Life Insurance, Petersen Paper, and Flowers by Jerri, and retired from Marycrest College, where she worked in the Registrar’s office.

She volunteered at the former Mercy Hospital and Adams Elementary School in Davenport, and served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a past member of Primitive Baptist Church in Davenport, and most recently attended First United Presbyterian Church in Moline.

Her hobbies were square dancing, sewing, tatting, crocheting, puzzles, cards, dominoes, and art.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Pruess, Cedar Rapids, and Sandra (Walter) Cox, Blue Grass; her sons, Jeffrey (Lucy) Talbert and Scot (Mary) Talbert, all of Davenport; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Pruess, and six siblings.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, CASI, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
