A funeral service for Howard L. Townsend, 91, of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Nov. 2, from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
Mr. Townsend died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Howard Townsend was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Davenport, the son of Thomas and Vivian (Dellet) Townsend.
He married Marie Smith on March 15, 1952, in Davenport. She died in 2011.
He retired from Alcoa in 1989 after 43 years of service.
He was a 33rd degree Mason and was involved in all branches of the Masonic Organization.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Townsend; his son, Tim Townsend; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mardell “Marti” Peters.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Herman; his sons, Lee Mounsey and Terry Townsend; his granddaughters, Brady Leigh and Christie Lynn; a sister; and five brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Kaaba Shriners Hospitals for Children.
