A memorial service for Gary Dean Johnson, 74, of Bettendorf, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the mortuary.
Mr. Johnson died Monday, Dec. 24, 2018.
Gary Johnson was born May 29, 1944, in Davenport, the son of Frank and Viola (Geerts) Johnson.
He married Karen Kakert on March 9, 1963, in Davenport.
In earlier years, he owned and operated Johnson Donut Shop and Restaurant in Bettendorf. He later worked for Caterpillar and retired from Donohoo Steel in Bettendorf.
His hobbies were boating, waterskiing, riding motorcycles, drag racing, golfing, rebuilding cars, and working on home improvement projects.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Sheila Williams, Kristine Johnson, and Michelle (Michael) Meggers; his grandchildren, Nicole Davis, Nickolaus Hollars, Seth Williams, Madison Meggers, and Mitch Meggers; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey, Sharon and Jacquie; and a brother, Arlen.
